Atmospheric macramé

The intricately woven objects made with the macramé technique were initially conceived as the ideal pairing to Atmospheric Wood furniture and interior accents. Their bright colours and fluid organic shapes reinforce the same vision of freedom and closeness to nature in an urban habitat as seen in the wood treatment.

From woodworking to weaving, I am pursuing the same vision of reinventing and recontextualizing old knowledge into a modern urban lifestyle.

Macramé is believed to have originated with 13th-century Arab weavers. These artisans knotted the excess thread and yarn along the edges of hand-loomed fabrics into decorative fringes on bath towels, shawls, and veils. It is this feeling of bringing new life to otherwise discarded material that makes the Atmospheric Macramé a fantastic pairing for reclaimed or upcycled furniture.

“Using ropes and knots in my practice feels very natural. Maybe because my hometown is a harbour city and I grew up surrounded by the nautical... I guess macramé reminds me where I come from.”
